We use Hale Transportation as our travel partner given their friendly service and clean, comfortable buses. We've been using them for over five years.

Our trips are customized so they're unique and geared towards seniors.

Many of our trip ideas come from our trip patrons!

All our trips are open to the public so you don't have to be a member of the Johnson City Senior Center to join us! You also don't have to be a senior to join our trips. We've had children and grandchildren join us, depending on the trip.

If you are a member of our Center, you'll enjoy a $10 savings on any trip you're taking.

Yellow Brick Road Casino

Longwood Gardens – Chrysanthemum Festival

We all loved the gardens last year so we decided to do it again this year. Last year we saw Spring flowers, this year we’ll enjoy the Fall flowers and colors.

We’ll depart the Center at 7:00AM and travel to Kennett Square and Longwood Gardens. We’ll have all day to explore over 200 acres of flowers, the water fountain displays, the conservatory and more. Have lunch ($20 meal money included) and keep exploring. We’ll board the bus at 4:30PM, stop for dinner at a local restaurant ($20 meal money included) and continue home. Arrive back at the Center at approximately 9:00PM.

Price includes round trip motor coach, admission to Longwood Gardens, meal money and driver gratuity.

Plymouth, Massachusetts & Jack-O'-Lantern Spectacular

Wednesday, October 16 – Friday, October 18, 2024

FOUR SEATS OPENED UP FOR THIS TRIP!!!

Join your escort, Lucy Baker, for two fun-filled, busy days in Massachusetts.

Day 1 – October 16: Depart the Center at 6:00AM and travel toward Plymouth. We’ll stop briefly at a rest area before arriving at the Plymouth Plantation for a traditional turkey dinner and tour of Pilgrim Village.

We’ll have a “photo op” at Plymouth Rock, then continue to Carver, Massachusetts and visit a Cranberry Bog to see how cranberries are harvested.

After the tour, we’ll continue to our hotel for the next two nights: the Courtyard by Marriott. You’ll have time to freshen up and relax before we reboard the bus to have dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2 – October 17: After our included breakfast at the hotel, we’ll join our guide for a walking tour of Providence’s famous Italian Neighborhood. We’ll stop at an authentic Italian bakery for a beverage and sample dessert. We’ll have time for lunch ($20 meal money included) and shopping.

We’ll return to the hotel mid-afternoon for time to relax before going to the Providence Zoo for an included BBQ feast followed by a self-guided tour of the Zoo and hundreds of jack-o’-lanterns. Make sure your phone is charged; you’ll want to take lots of pictures.

Day 3 – October 18: After our breakfast at the hotel, we’ll travel to Sutton, Massachusetts for a tour of Vaillancourt Folk Art Studio. We’ll reboard the bus and travel to Steaming Tender Restaurant located at the old train station in Palmer, Massachusetts on our way home.

After a brief rest stop, we’ll arrive at the Center at approximately 6:00PM.

Penn's Peak – Tribute to Three American Troubadours

Debbie Isaak is your escort today for another trip down memory lane with a Tribute Show of James Taylor, Carly Simon and Carol King songs. This show explores these musical icons through clever musical arrangements and lots of their popular songs.

Depart the Center at 9:00AM. Once we arrive at Penn's Peak, we’ll have time to browse their gift shop before a family-style lunch is served. Then enjoy the show, sing and dance along. Following the show, we’ll board the bus and head to Bingham’s for dinner (on your own), then head back to the Center, arriving at approximately 7:00PM.

Amish Christmas in Lancaster

Tuesday, December 3 – Thursday, December 5, 2024

Join Lucy Baker for Christmas in Amish country, a special time of year to visit the Lancaster area.

Day 1 – December 3: Depart from the Center at 8:00AM. We’ll stop at a rest area along the way, before we have lunch at the Cocoa Diner in Hershey ($20 meal money included). After lunch, we’ll continue to Middletown, Pennsylvania and visit the National Christmas Center.

We’ll continue to our hotel for the next two nights: Best Western Eden Resort. We’ll have time to relax before going to the Dutch Apple Theater for a buffet dinner and performance of “White Christmas”.

Day 2 – December 4: After our included breakfast at the hotel, we’ll meet our local step-on guide and tour Amish farmlands, then stop at an Amish quilt and craft shop, as well as a mystery stop. We’ll stop at Kitchen Kettle Village where we can enjoy lunch ($20 meal money included) and browse the shops.

We’ll continue to the Sight & Sound Theater for the performance of “Daniel”. NOTE: this was incorrectly stated as "David" in the 2024 Trip Newsletter.

After the show, we’ll be treated to dinner in an Amish home, then return to our hotel for the evening.

Day 3 – December 5: After our included breakfast at the hotel, we’ll visit the Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market before going to the American Music Theater in Lancaster for their morning performance of “Joy to the World”. Following the show, we’ll have a smorgasbord lunch at Miller’s Restaurant then head for home. We’ll stop for a fast-food dinner and arrive back at the Center at approximately 7:30PM.

Pennsylvania Christmas Shopping

Attention shoppers!!! Join Beth Cunningham for some great Christmas shopping as we visit the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. It features over 800 vendors and exhibitors. It’s a chance to buy those one-of-a-kind gifts, stocking stuffers and maybe a little something for yourself!

Depart the Center at 6:30AM. We’ll stop at a rest area en route to Harrisburg for a full day of shopping. A buffet lunch, which is included, begins at 11:00AM and runs the entire afternoon. Shop in the morning, break for lunch, then shop some more! How fun is that?

We’ll leave at 4:00PM, stop for fast-food, and arrive back at the Center at approximately 8:00PM.

Price includes round trip motor coach, lunch and driver gratuity.

Koziar's Christmas Village

Lucy Baker is your escort today to Koziar’s Christmas Village in Bernville, Pennsylvania.

Depart the Center at 1:30PM. We’ll stop briefly at a rest area, then continue to Shartlesville, Pennsylvania for dinner at a local restaurant (TBA); $25 meal money included.

After dinner, we’ll continue to Koziar’s Christmas Village and have time to explore and see the holiday lights. Dress warm, it'll be cold. We’ll return to the Center at approximately 11:00PM.

Price includes round trip motor coach, dinner, admission to Koziar’s and driver gratuity.

Savannah & the Golden Isles

Sunday, March 2 Sunday, March 9 2025

Day 1 – Sunday, 3/2: Depart the Center at 6:00AM. Travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina. There’ll be a coffee break mid-morning, lunch en route (meal money included) and a mid-afternoon break. Our hotel tonight is the Hampton Inn. We’ll be on our own for dinner (meal money included).

Day 2 – Monday, 3/3: After our included breakfast at the hotel, we’ll continue to St. Simons Island for three nights at the King & Prince Resort. Lunch is on our own today; dinner is included.

 

Day 3 – Tuesday, 3/4: Breakfast is included at the resort this morning followed by a Guided Tour of St. Simons Island. We’ll have lunch (meal money included) in the village, followed by a tour of Jekyll Island and the Mosaic Museum, a Trolley Tour and an included dinner.

Day 4 – Wednesday, 3/5: After our included breakfast at the Resort, we’ll have a Guided Tour of Okefenokee Swamp and an included picnic lunch before returning to the hotel. We’ll have some free time before going to a Mystery Stop and an included dinner.

Day 5 – Thursday, 3/6: After an early included breakfast at the Resort, we’ll leave for a Guided Tour of Sapelo Island with included lunch on the Island. We’ll travel to Savannah and check into the Springhill Suites in the Historic District. Dinner tonight is at The Pirates’ House and the rest of the evening is free to explore.

Day 6 – Friday, 3/7: After our included breakfast, we’ll board the Old Savannah Trolley for a tour, followed by a tour of the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist then the Andrew Low House Museum (founder of the Girls Scouts). Lunch is aboard the Savannah Riverboat cruise. We’ll have free time this afternoon before going to dinner at Paula Deen’s Lady & Sons restaurant.

Day 7 – Saturday, 3/8: Breakfast is included at the hotel again this morning. We’ll check out and travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia. We’ll stay at the Doubletree Hotel tonight. Lunch is on our own today; dinner will have meal money included.

Day 8 – Sunday, 3/9: Breakfast is included at the hotel this morning then we’ll depart for home, but not before making another Mystery Stop.  Lunch is en route with meal money included. We’ll arrive back at the Center at approximately 5:30PM.

     PLEASE BE ADVISED, THERE WILL BE CONSIDERABLE WALKING OVER UNEVEN TERRAIN ON THIS TRIP.

INSURANCE

Insurance is highly recommended and protects your trip cost if you need to cancel after the final payment due date and you cannot be replaced. It is available wherever you normally buy trip insurance, and also at AAA Vestal. Ask for Kelly Law and she’ll be happy to help you.

There are insurance options that require you to purchase within 14 days of your deposit. Your original $100 option held your seat (and was applied to your total trip cost). The $200 deposit required now will be your deposit date for insurance purposes. Your receipt will be your proof of deposit.

If you placed a $100 option and decide you don’t want to go on this trip, please let us know so we can release your seat and issue you a refund. If we don’t receive your $200 deposit by Thursday, September 12, your seat will be released to the next person on our wait list.

A Trip Committee member will be at the Center on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:00AM – 12:00PM to answer any questions and confirm your reservation.
