Widow & Widowers Support Group

A new support group for Widows & Widowers has started. It's to help navigate the grieving process. They meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

The group is facilitated by Kathy Sheehan and Roxann Chalker. They'll focus on positivity and share topics the group wants to discuss. Come join us as we all move forward in our life journey. We hope this will be a place where you can feel free to express yourself, to learn some things and to have sharing moments that help you and others walk the path of widowhood.

 This is open to caregivers of any age. Attending a support group offers many benefits:

  • Gaining a sense of empowerment and control.
  • Improving your coping skills.
  • Talking openly and honestly about your feelings with others who can relate.
  • Reducing distress, depression or anxiety and getting practical advice or information.

LGBTQ+ Senior Social Hour

Sponsored by Broome County Office for Aging

This social group hopes to establish a safe space to provide helpful, positive and supportive social interactions amongst local LGBTQ+ older adults.

They aim to promote dignity, caring and problem solving within the community by collaborating with local agencies in hopes of providing resources unique to the needs of the group.

Light refreshments and homemade cookies will be available. The group is facilitated by Robert Hoover, local artist, retired magazine industry professional and Office for Aging Advisory Board Member.

Alzheimer's Association Dementia Caregiver Support Group

Wednesday, November 19, 4:00 – 5:00PM

The Alzheimer's Association is now offering a Dementia Caregiver Support Group that meets the third Wednesday of every month in the Library at our Center. The group is for caregivers of people living with Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

This support groups offers a way to:

  • Develop a support system.
  • Exchange practical information on challenges and possible solutions.
  • Talk through issues and ways of coping.
  • Share feelings, needs and concerns.
  • Learn about community resources.
