Social Opportunities

The Johnson City Senior Center plays an important role in the lives of many of the elders of this community by fulfilling many of their social and emotional needs. We do this through holiday parties, travel, Bingo, knitting and crocheting, quilting, painting classes, card games and specialty craft classes. Intellectual needs are met through a variety of educational opportunities such as; college classes with Broome Community College, special interest lectures, Computer Classes, Senior Defensive Driving, Guitar lessons, Oil and Watercolor Painting.

Community Service

As a visible symbol of society’s concern of older persons, the Johnson City Senior Center helps older persons deal with the changing aspects of their everyday lives. Our center supports the independence of our members and encourages their involvement in the community thereby enhancing their dignity and increasing the quality of their later years. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities and community involvement: RSVP opportunities, volunteer opportunities within the senior center and other non for profit agencies. At the senior center, our chorus, cooperative volunteer opportunities with Johnson City High School, tax preparation, voting site, Legal Aid services, building use for rent and the Johnson City Holiday parade with cookies and hot chocolate for all participants, offer our members time to be involved in our center and their community.
